PostSubject: [Forum] [Tutorial] How to post flash and Youtube   Fri Sep 11, 2009 10:31 am

Theres people who dont know how to post flash, and posting flash is important because then you can post games, videos, music and w/e else you want
So I made this tutorial really quick for those guys

Posting Youtube:

1. Find the video you want to post here

2. Copy the link for that video (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxb7b0jGZvc)

3. Click the filmstrip icon next to the f icon at the top where all the other post icons are

4. Paste your link into the box that pops up and hit ok

And thats it, you can preview or post and the youtube video will replace the text
The text that is replaced looks like: instead of using the icon

Posting Flash:

1. Find the flash you want to post (example: http://www.addictinggames.com/superstacker.html)

2. View the source code of the page that your flash is on, in firefox you do this by hitting ctrl+u, otherwise you can go to view at the very top of the window (next to file and edit) and click click View then fins something that says "View Page Source" and click that

3. While looking at the source find .swf, swf is the extension flash uses, you can do this by either looking with your eyes, or using Edit -> Find (or hit ctrl+f) and typing .swf in the box that pops up

4. Keep looking for .swf until you find the one that looks like a link, it may take several searches to find it (In this example its http://www.addictinggames.com/D78AQSAKQLQWI9/5428.swf)

5. Click the red f icon at the top, next to the link icon with all the other post icons

6. Paste the .swf into the larger text field in the box that pops up (in this example its http://www.addictinggames.com/D78AQSAKQLQWI9/5428.swf)

7. The 2 smaller text fields in that box are for the width and height, you can find the width and height that the original flash used near the .swf link you found in the page source, I recommand you use those values, but you can use any values you wish (in this example its width='600' height='550', so in the first box I would type 600 and in the 2nd box i would type 550

8. Press ok and it will go into your post as flash

And thats it, you can preview or post and the flash will replace the text
The text that is replaced looks like: [flash(600,550)]http://www.addictinggames.com/D78AQSAKQLQWI9/5428.swf[/flash ]
You could also just type [flash(your width, your height)]your .swf link[/flash] instead of using the icon

Posting Flash Advanced:

Only read this part if you understand all of the above stuff, without needing to refer to it in order to post flash

You may have noticed that ive posted video that wasn't from youtube, or playlists, or versions of games that are different then the original game
I do this using something called flashvars

Flashvars are varibles that flash uses in order to use the same .swf to accomplish different things
You can use those variables here with the ? sign after the .swf link in your [flash] tag

For example:

Knight posted a game here: http://tmmm.forumclan.com/other-games-f10/game-of-the-week-sept-10th-t422.htm
The game's .swf link is http://media1.thegamehomepage.com/swf/rr1.swf
The way you post the game is [flash(640,480)]http://media1.thegamehomepage.com/swf/rr1.swf[/flash ]
I posted a version of that game with a level I made

When viewing the page source you can sometimes see something like Param name="FlashVars"

In the case of the version of this game above with my level in it, the source says
<Param name="FlashVars" Value="tghtitle=Choose Fast&tghcode=448423">

Everything after Value is what you can put after ? in your [flash] tag (not including the quotes)

So my level of that game is posted like this:
[flash(640,480)]http://media1.thegamehomepage.com/swf/rr1.swf?tghtitle=Choose Fast&tghcode=448423[/flash ]

The variables for that flash are named tghtitle and tghcode
tghtitle is used for the title
tghcode is used for the level

I also posted video here: http://tmmm.forumclan.com/other-games-f10/starcraft-2-thread-t376.htm

The .swf thats used as the player is the same for all of those videos (https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/149251/Pat/player.swf)
I could post just the player with [flash(300,300)]https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/149251/Pat/player.swf[/flash ] like the way you would normally post flash

That would look like:

But pressing play in that doesnt do anything because it doesnt have the variable for the video

The flashvar for the video in that flash is named file

So I would put [flash(300,300)]https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/149251/Pat/player.swf?file=[/flash ] and fill in the rest with a link to a video
Example: [flash(600,600)]https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/149251/Pat/player.swf?file=http://cdn1.fliqz.com/fliqz/production/videos/1ed93458ee2e46858749f6a0136c507e.flv[/flash ]

Which would come out like this:

I could add a start up picture with the image variable:
[flash(465,370)]https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/149251/Pat/player.swf?file=http://cdn1.fliqz.com/fliqz/production/videos/1ed93458ee2e46858749f6a0136c507e.flv&image=http://z.about.com/d/animatedtv/1/0/4/R/fGuyPetarded_v2_72.jpg[/flash ]
Which would look like:

Or even a TMMM logo

Using Flashvars adds alot to posting flash

I just wanted to show you can post anything, including full episodes/movies

Family Guy just happened to be what i decided to use for the example, i figured everyone watched it, and would enjoy it more

You should be asking why i used that youtube video
