so i was playing a game (Fortress Survival) and at the end of it i typed -save and it put the code up on the screen as normal and then said something about saving the code directly into the warcraft directory. and sure enough when i looked

Code:
function PreloadFiles takes nothing returns nothing

   call Preload( "
            -load KWKO-AIGW

          " )
   call PreloadEnd( 0.0 )

endfunction

it had created its own directory titled "Fortress Codes" and then created a new .txt doc in that directory. does anyone know how this is possible? apparently in past versions it could also read text documents (thus the point of the function above)

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/world-editor-help-zone-98/help-file-writing-using-warcraft-iii-230866/

The code in the 2nd post there is a basic demonstration of how to do it

Also im fairly certain that wasnt intended to be read automatically as you wouldnt need the -load part if you were using that file to read it from within the map
Seems more like something that is made so that you dont have to write down the code manually or take a screenshot and can just look in that folder for your codes to manually copy and paste them later

thanks pat! this is cool. ill try playing around with it a bit today or tomorrow and see if i can figure out reading text files / scanning files in general

i think the inclusion of the -load was to make it work very easily with the current loading system without any additional work. of course you could just add the -load when reading it, but then its just a matter of where you add it

The system that loads it with -load would be triggered by the player typing a chat message where -load is what its looking for then it strips that off for the code, so having the automatic system use the same thing like that doesnt really make sense to me since you would have to strip it off there too

i could see this really easily actually. there were two creators for the game, 1 very good at coding 1 good at design. the coder left halfway through this project and im guessing the other one had to scrape something together

Yeah thats possible
Even then though i dont see a designer scraping something like that together, but maybe
